"Joint Government Agreement Ceremony with Lee Nakyon
A Desperate Move Revealing Imminent Defeat"
Yoon Yeojoon, Chief Standing Election Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the People Power Party, saying, "The attempt to unite the forces defending insurrection has failed," and added, "It was an unjustified ploy, so the outcome was only natural."
On May 30, at the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, during a meeting of the Central Election Committee, Chief Chair Yoon made these remarks. He continued his criticism, stating, "Although the unification attempt failed, we must still address their outdated and wrongful political practices."
Chief Chair Yoon strongly denounced the People Power Party, saying, "The People Power Party does not foster its own talent and, whenever a presidential election comes around, tries to bring in outsiders to get through the situation. On top of that, they try to unsettle and bring down a vulnerable third candidate to gain free votes, acting as a political group that begs for support. They are a party with neither vision nor people."
He went on to say, "This is the true nature of the People Power Party, which claims to represent conservatism. The disaster of Yoon Sukyeol is the result of this party exceeding its limits. The Yoon Sukyeol disaster is the outcome of beggar politics and a party of limitations."
He further criticized, "Far from showing any reflection, the People Power Party is still floundering in the swamp of insurrection. All that remains for those who regress to the past is opportunism and a low-grade clique culture; they have no genuine conservative values or convictions."
He also commented, "The joint government agreement ceremony hastily announced with former Prime Minister Lee Nakyon is a desperate measure that only reveals their sense of impending defeat. Their attempt to unite forces to block Lee Jaemyung's alleged dictatorship is, quite simply, absurd, and such an alliance will only lead to a worse outcome than not forming one at all."
Finally, he mentioned the high voter turnout on the first day of early voting, stating, "Despite their claims of election fraud, early voting has now firmly established itself as part of the system. With humility and modesty, we will focus solely on the will of the people who desire a change of government," encouraging people to vote.
