Trump: "Tariff Nullification Ruling Is Terrible and Political... Supreme Court Must Overturn It"

"We must not allow hustlers to destroy America"
"This will be the harshest financial judgment"

U.S. President Donald Trump criticized a first-instance court ruling that found the tariffs he imposed to be illegal, expressing hope that the Supreme Court would overturn the decision.

On the 29th (local time), President Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, "The ruling by the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) is so wrong and political," adding, "I hope the Supreme Court will swiftly and decisively overturn this terrible and nation-threatening decision. We must never allow the hustlers behind this to destroy our country."

Previously, the CIT had issued a ruling the day before, invalidating and prohibiting the enforcement of reciprocal tariffs and other measures that President Trump had imposed on global trading partners based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). On the same day, the federal appeals court ordered a temporary suspension of the ruling's effect while the appeal is under review.

President Trump commented on the appeals court, saying, "Fortunately, the 11-member appeals panel has temporarily suspended the CIT's ruling." He continued, "The terrible (first-instance) decision determined that I needed congressional approval for these tariffs. This means that hundreds of politicians would have to gather in Washington, D.C. for weeks or even months to decide what measures to impose on countries that treat the United States unfairly."

President Trump stated, "If this decision stands, the authority of the president will be completely destroyed, and the presidency will never be the same." He added, "Radical left-wing judges and some very bad people are destroying America. The trillions of dollars the United States could lose as a result of this decision are the funds that would 'make America great again.'" He emphasized, "This would be the harshest financial judgment ever imposed on us as a sovereign nation," and stressed, "The president of the United States must be able to protect America from those who inflict economic and financial harm."
