Appealing for Support with All-Night Campaigning
Repeatedly Denies Possibility of Unification
Lee Junseok, the presidential candidate of the Reform New Party, visited university districts in Seoul on the second day of early voting, May 30, to encourage his core supporters to vote.
During lunchtime, Lee continued his so-called "walking campaign" by visiting Gyeongui Line Forest Park, a popular spot for young professionals on their lunch break. Following his campaign stops at Yeouido Park, Gangnam Station, and COEX on May 28, he plans to appeal for support to achieve a dramatic turnaround. He will also target young voters by focusing on university areas, including the back gate of Chung-Ang University in Dongjak District, the Culture and Arts Street near Hyehwa Station in Daehak-ro, Jongno District, and Sinchon in Seodaemun District.
Starting on this day and continuing until the last official day of the campaign, Lee has launched an all-night campaign focused on the Seoul metropolitan area. He intends to meet voters throughout the night, even past midnight, to appeal for their support. Previously, just two days before the April 10 general election last year, Lee began a "48-hour all-night campaign." At that time, he focused on his own constituency of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, holding overnight street rallies that were credited with laying the groundwork for a dramatic comeback.

During the remaining days of the campaign, Lee is targeting densely populated urban areas in Seoul and the greater metropolitan area to maximize campaign efficiency. In addition, he is appealing for votes among his core supporters in their 20s and 30s, as well as voters with strong connections to science, engineering, and education fields. This is also why Lee visited Pangyo in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where many IT companies are located, the previous day. Lee stated, "I will become the first president with a science and engineering background, different from presidents who were lawyers or activists," and mentioned French President Emmanuel Macron as an example of a young leader.
Meanwhile, Lee once again rejected the possibility of a last-minute unification deal with the People Power Party. He expressed regret regarding the claim made by Kim Jaewon, chief of staff of the People Power Party's presidential campaign, who said on a radio program that "Lee Junseok's side contacted us to meet at the National Assembly Members' Office Building." Lee stated, "Neither I nor anyone from my campaign ever made such a proposal."
