SOFC-Based Vessel... Highlighting Eco-Friendly Technology
Samsung Heavy Industries is set to target the global eco-friendly ship market by introducing a next-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier equipped with a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC).
On May 30, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it will participate in the international shipbuilding and marine exhibition "Nor-Shipping 2025," held in Oslo, Norway, from the 2nd to the 6th of next month (local time), where it plans to showcase its advanced technologies and market response strategies. During the event, Samsung Heavy Industries is expected to receive technical approval from an international classification society for its LNG carrier equipped with SOFC technology. SOFC is a system that generates electricity through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, and is considered a next-generation eco-friendly energy source due to its high power generation efficiency and significant reduction of environmental pollutants.
