Automobile and Machinery Sectors Decline in Early Trading
The KOSPI, which showed an upward trend the previous day, is exhibiting slight weakness in early trading. After a rapid rise in a short period, it appears that profit-taking is taking place as investors pause to catch their breath.
On May 30, the KOSPI opened at 2,713.24, down 0.27% from the previous day. As of 9:21 a.m., it stood at 2,709.85.
In early trading, foreign investors and institutions showed strong selling pressure. They recorded net sales of 148.8 billion won and 83.1 billion won, respectively. Only individual investors recorded net purchases, with 234.5 billion won.
By sector, declines were more pronounced. Several sectors fell by more than 1%, including construction (-1.63%), machinery and equipment (-1.53%), transportation and storage (-1.27%), and transportation equipment and parts (-1.08%). Among the gainers, electric and gas (1.83%) stood out the most. Other sectors such as textiles and apparel (0.71%) and food, beverage, and tobacco (0.64%) also rose, but the gains were modest.
Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, most declined. Kia (-3.1%) and Hyundai Motor (-2.6%) posted the largest drops. Hanwha Aerospace (-2.3%) and SK Hynix (-1.6%) also fell by more than 1%. On the other hand, KB Financial Group (0.7%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.6%), and Samsung Electronics (0.3%) gained.
The KOSDAQ also started lower at 735.26, down 0.14% from the previous day. As of 9:21 a.m., it was at 733.17.
Similarly, foreign investors and institutions recorded net sales of 58.7 billion won and 10.2 billion won, respectively. Individual investors recorded net purchases of 70.6 billion won.
Most sectors were in decline. Several sectors, including finance (-1.72%), electric and electronics (-1.33%), and machinery and equipment (-1.15%), dropped by more than 1%. Construction (1.34%) and paper and wood (0.80%) rose.
Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, ABL Bio posted the largest gain at 5.0%. This was followed by Legochem Bio (1.4%), Hugel (1.2%), Peptron (0.4%), and Alteogen (0.1%). In contrast, EcoPro (-3.3%), EcoPro BM (-3.1%), HLB (-2.0%), and Rainbow Robotics (-1.3%) declined.
