In-person Applications Accepted at Environmental Policy Division from June 2 to 10
Training Program Conducted by Korea National Park Service in August
Ulsan City and the Ulsan Biodiversity Center will be recruiting participants for the Geopark Interpreter Training Program from June 2 to June 10 to promote the excellence of the Ulsan Geopark.
Geopark interpreters are volunteers who provide explanations and guidance to visitors of the geopark on topics such as geology, landforms, ecology, culture, and history. They also engage in promotional activities, maintain the environment of geological sites, and work to prevent damage to these sites.
Eligibility for participation is limited to individuals who are willing and committed to serve as geopark interpreters for at least two years, are residents of Ulsan City, and are between the ages of 20 and 69. Applicants must not have a criminal record related to assault, sexual offenses, or similar crimes.
Preference will be given to residents of Ulju-gun and Dong-gu, which are the planned areas for the Ulsan Geopark, as well as to those who have majored in geology, landforms, ecology, environment, history, or culture, those who possess interpreter certificates in other fields, and those with foreign language proficiency.
The number of recruits is four. After a document screening, a brief interview will be conducted to select the final participants.
The selected trainees will participate in the Geopark Interpreter Training Program conducted by the National Geopark Office of the Korea National Park Service from August 8 to August 19.
The training will be held at the Bukhansan Ecological Exploration Center of the Korea National Park Service and will consist of a 40-hour general course covering geopark interpretation, promotion, and visitor guidance, as well as a 60-hour specialized course. After completing the training, participants will obtain a national qualification through written and presentation exams.
After the training, participants will undergo additional education and practical training at Ulsan Geopark sites before beginning their activities as Ulsan Geopark interpreters.
The training fee is 1 million won per person and will be covered by the Ulsan Biodiversity Center. Accommodation and other expenses must be paid by the participants themselves.
Citizens wishing to participate should apply in person at the Natural Environment Team, Environmental Policy Division, 6th floor of Annex 1, Ulsan City Hall.

An official from the city stated, "We have designated 10 sites with outstanding landscapes and geological significance in Ulsan as key attractions and are preparing for national geopark certification. In the future, we plan to train and deploy interpreters who are not only geopark experts but can also promote and educate the public about the history and culture of Ulsan Geopark."
The Ulsan Geopark has designated the following sites in Ulju-gun and Dong-gu as key attractions: the Daegok-ri Fossilized Footprint Site, Cheonjeon-ri Dinosaur Footprint Site, Guksucheon Fold, Seonbawi, Jagkwaecheon, Jeongjoksan Mujechi Wetland, Ganwoljae, Daewangam Marine Erosional Landform, Jujeondong Poyu Rock, and Ganjeolgot Wave-cut Platform.
