Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as an outstanding local government for the third consecutive year in the comprehensive winter heavy snow and cold wave evaluation organized by Gyeonggi Province, securing a financial incentive of 100 million won.
Gyeonggi Province evaluated 31 cities and counties on their preemptive preparations for preventing damage from natural disasters during the winter season, as well as their response capabilities and performance regarding heavy snow and cold waves from November 15, 2024, to March 15, 2025. Based on this comprehensive assessment, Suwon City was selected as an outstanding local government.
During the past winter, Suwon City received high marks for its efforts to prevent and respond to cold wave-related damage, including providing heating cost support to senior centers, low-income elderly households, and households with people with disabilities; operating cold wave shelters and emergency evacuation centers; running cold wave mitigation facilities such as smart bus stops and heated benches; and supplying heating items to homeless individuals.
A Suwon City official stated, "We did our utmost to protect citizens safely from the cold wave, and as a result, we have been selected as an outstanding local government for the third consecutive year." The official added, "We will also thoroughly prepare to protect citizens and minimize damage during the summer season."
