Announcement of 40 Asian Pacific American Leaders Under 40 Since 2016
A significant number of Korean Americans have been included in the "40 Under 40: Next Generation Leaders in Asian Pacific American Politics and Public Policy" list, announced by the National Association of Asian Pacifics in Politics and Public Affairs (NAAPPPA), which highlights young Asian Pacific American talent in the United States.
According to the association’s website on May 30 (local time), the recently announced list of 40 elite individuals includes Jinwook Hwang, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Sungkwan Jang, a political consultant who served as a delegate at last year's Democratic National Convention.
Other honorees include Shine Lee, Legislative Assistant to Representative Young Kim (Republican, California); Sam Cho, Chair of the Seattle Port Commission; Francis Choi, Advisor to the Executive Director of the Seattle Port Authority; Hannah Cho, CEO of a consulting firm; Yvette Kim, Chief of Staff to Irvine City Councilmember Melinda Liu; and Alex Won, former Director of Asian Pacific American Engagement at the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
Since 2016, the association has annually selected and announced 40 Asian Pacific American leaders under the age of 40 who are actively engaged in U.S. politics and public administration.
The association stated, "Through this bipartisan list, we aimed to spotlight Asian Pacific American talent who are making significant contributions in politics and public policy outside of elected office," adding, "The selected individuals include campaign strategists, lobbyists, legislative staff, and corporate public policy experts, who play key roles behind the scenes at the center of power as non-elected figures driving the political process."
