Early Voting Turnout Reaches 20.41% at 7 a.m. on Day 2...Highest Ever Recorded

Seoul and Gyeonggi Early Voting Turnout Nears 20 Percent

As of 7:00 a.m. on May 30, the final day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout stood at 20.41%. This figure continues to be the highest early voting turnout recorded at this time of day in history.


According to the National Election Commission, as of 7:00 a.m. on this day, 9,062,156 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.

The nationwide average early voting turnout is 20.41%. Since the early voting system was first introduced for nationwide elections in the June 4, 2014 local elections, this is the highest turnout at this time of day for any nationwide election, excluding by-elections and re-elections.


So far, Jeonnam has recorded the highest voter turnout at 36.29%, followed by Jeonbuk at 33.99% and Gwangju at 33.29%. Seoul and Gyeonggi have turnout rates close to 20%, at 19.91% and 19.11%, respectively. Daegu has the lowest turnout at 13.97%.


The early voting, which began on May 29, is being held over two days, concluding today. Voting hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring identification and visit an early voting station.
