The main contents of the agreement include: joint promotion of research and development and pilot projects in the mobility-related industry; technological exchange for the recirculation and recycling of high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles; exchange and training of professionals in the fields of transportation, logistics, and autonomous driving; participation in government and local government R&D projects; and cooperation in the operation of demand-responsive buses in under-served public transportation areas in northern Gyeonggi Province.
In particular, in the field of high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles, the agreement will establish a system for information exchange and cooperation on recirculation and recycling technologies, based on the research capabilities and expertise of Joongbu University. Going forward, the two institutions plan to identify opportunities for joint research in related fields and to lay the groundwork for the spread of eco-friendly transportation technologies.
Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation expects that this agreement will not only improve transportation accessibility in northern Gyeonggi Province, but also accelerate the demonstration and expansion of autonomous driving-based transportation services. Through this industry-academia cooperation model, various synergistic effects are also anticipated, such as the development of next-generation transportation technologies, securing of skilled professionals, and revitalization of region-based research.
Minkyung Sun, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, stated, "Through our cooperation with Joongbu University, we will not only solve local transportation issues but also further accelerate our smart mobility strategy," adding, "We will continue to build a sustainable future transportation foundation by linking mobility technologies and resource recycling."
Lee Jungyeol, President of Joongbu University, said, "Through this cooperation, we will contribute to establishing Goyang as a hub for autonomous mobility," and added, "I hope this agreement with Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation will become a model case for sustainable smart transportation cities."
Meanwhile, since its establishment in 2020, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation has been actively pursuing various projects to realize smart transportation services, such as Ddokbus (Gyeonggi Province's demand-responsive transportation service), Ddokta (Gyeonggi Province's MaaS platform), and the advancement of ITS. The corporation is also dedicated to enhancing residents' mobility rights and happiness through initiatives such as integrated dispatching for taxis for people with disabilities, transportation cost support for children and youth, the Gyeonggi Province public bus project, and the public management system for city buses.
Through these various innovative projects, the corporation has also been recognized externally for its outstanding achievements, winning the Excellence Award at the 2024 Gyeonggi Province Active Administration Best Practices Competition, and receiving the Grand Prize at the 'Mobile Awards Korea' for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025. In addition, the corporation was awarded a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety for its excellent performance in '2024 Local Public Institution Job Policy Implementation.'
This recognition is the result of contributions that go beyond simple improvements in transportation services, including the creation of youth jobs and the expansion of local employment opportunities, which have been highly valued for their realization of social value. Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation plans to continue fulfilling its responsibilities as a public institution and to create a sustainable model in which transportation welfare and the local economy grow together.
