Gwangju Mayor Kang Kijeong cast his valuable vote on the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election on the 29th. In the afternoon, Mayor Kang visited Yongji Hall at Chonnam National University in Yongbong-dong, Buk-gu, which served as an early voting station, and participated in early voting together with university students. Before voting, Mayor Kang communicated with young voters, who are university students, by having a meal with them at the Chonnam National University student cafeteria.

When Mayor Kang asked the students, "How are your friends reacting to this presidential election?" one student replied, "There have been many events such as martial law, and it has been a time to reflect on the value of democracy. My friends are very interested in the presidential election, and everyone said they would definitely participate in voting."

Mayor Kang explained the significance of the "Voting is Power - Achieving a 92.5% Voter Turnout" campaign being promoted by Gwangju City and the importance of voting to the students, and urged them to participate in the election.

Mayor Kang stated, "Just as we have prevented martial law and overcome impeachment, now we must complete democracy through voting," and added, "By voting in both the early voting and the main election, we will show the power of Gwangju, and based on this, we will create a Gwangju where young people do not leave and a prosperous Gwangju."

The city is conducting the "Voting Participation Campaign - Voting is Power" to raise awareness of the importance of voting as a constitutional right and to ensure that all generations can participate in voting as responsible voters.

Participants include first-time voters, young people in their teens and twenties, migrant women, workers, as well as small and start-up businesses, delivery and courier workers, in order to guarantee their practical right to vote. In addition, the city is working to expand home voting stations and secure accessibility to polling stations to enhance voter convenience.

Meanwhile, early voting for the 21st presidential election is being held over two days, from the 29th to the 30th, at 96 early voting stations in the Gwangju area. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters can cast their ballots at any nearby early voting station nationwide by bringing a photo ID such as a resident registration card, passport, or driver's license (issued by a government office or public institution). The locations of early voting stations can be checked using the "Find a Polling Station" service provided on the National Election Commission website.
