On May 29, Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced that the Gijang County Football Club had secured a spot in the National Sports Festival finals by defeating the Busan Transportation Corporation Football Club, a team from a higher league, with a score of 2-0.
In the representative selection match held on May 28, the Gijang County Football Club maintained a tight game throughout, relying on organized defense and persistent pressure. The deadlock was dramatically broken by two 'last-minute goals' from player Park Sewoong, who was substituted in near the end of the match. The consecutive goals scored just before the final whistle brought cheers from both the bench and the stands.
This victory is significant not only as an upset in a single match, but also because a local team, in its first year, defeated a higher-league team and earned a spot in the National Sports Festival, creating what many are calling a miracle.
