A special regeneration area refers to an urban regeneration activation area where a large-scale disaster has occurred with damages exceeding a certain amount, within a region declared as a special disaster area. In these areas, national and local government resources and capabilities are concentrated to maximize the effectiveness of urban regeneration projects.
At the public hearing, the proposal for the designation of the special regeneration area was presented along with progress updates and future plans to help residents better understand the initiative. In addition, Professor Jeon Kyungku from Daegu University, Senior Researcher Yoon Byunghoon from the LH Land and Housing Research Institute, and Research Fellow Jeon Wooseon from the Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation participated as panelists, engaging in discussions and a Q&A session.
Residents of the affected villages welcomed the designation of the special regeneration area through this public hearing and expressed hope for the swift recovery of their communities.
Yeongdeok County plans to establish a special regeneration plan through this process of gathering opinions, aiming to swiftly rebuild wildfire-affected areas and stabilize housing for victims. The county intends to complete approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by the end of December this year.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "The designation of this special regeneration area is an achievement made possible through close cooperation between our county and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. We will not only carry out comprehensive recovery projects to restore daily life and the community for affected residents, but also lay the foundation for turning this crisis into an opportunity so that the disaster-stricken areas can look forward to a better future."
