"Semiconductor Citizen Education with UNIST" to Be Launched
Four Lectures Next Month on the Theme of the "Sobu-jang Ecosystem"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is partnering with Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) to launch an educational program for citizens, presenting a vision for the future of a semiconductor city. The initiative aims to equip citizens with the competencies befitting the world's largest single-city semiconductor belt.
On May 29, Yongin City announced that it will jointly operate the "Semiconductor Citizen Education with UNIST" program for citizens next month. Through this program, the city will explain the structure and future outlook of the semiconductor industry to citizens interested in the field, and provide information on the materials, parts, and equipment (so-called "Sobu-jang") industries essential for the development of the semiconductor sector.
The lectures will be held a total of four times over two days, on June 12 and June 17. Professor Jung Hongshik from the UNIST Graduate School of Semiconductor Materials and Parts will serve as the instructor, delivering lectures under the theme "Understanding the Semiconductor Sobu-jang Ecosystem."
The first lecture will take place at 10:00 a.m. on June 12 at the "Yongin Media Center Studio" located in Dongbaek-dong, Giheung-gu. On the same day at 3:00 p.m., another session will be held at the "UNIST-Yongin Special City Semiconductor Education and Industry-Academia Hub" classroom inside Yongin City Hall. On June 17, two additional lectures will be held at the "Poeun Art Hall Event Hall" in Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu, and the "Yongin Cultural Center International Conference Room" in Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu.
Any Yongin citizen is eligible to attend the lectures. Those interested can apply via the "Integrated Reservation" page under "Education Courses" on the Yongin Special City Integrated Reservation website.
In addition to this program, the city plans to offer various educational initiatives, including semiconductor education for middle and high school students during school vacations and integrated training for new employees of semiconductor companies in July.
A city official stated, "This program will provide an opportunity for both citizens and public officials to easily understand the semiconductor industry," adding, "We will continue to develop a variety of educational programs to foster talent in the semiconductor sector."
