Sungsin Yanghoe Develops Special Concrete Resistant to 15mm Per Hour Rainfall

Resolving Issues of Strength Reduction and Construction Quality Degradation

Sungsin Yanghoe Technology Research Institute and its affiliate, Sungsin Remicon, announced on May 29 that they have succeeded in developing a high-performance concrete that can be applied without loss of strength even during rainy weather.

Sungsin Yanghoe Develops Special Concrete Resistant to 15mm Per Hour Rainfall

For the development of this product, Sungsin Yanghoe precisely simulated a rainfall environment with an hourly precipitation of 15mm, which is the upper average rainfall, and verified the performance of the concrete under actual conditions. As a result, the company effectively resolved the issues of strength reduction and diminished construction quality that conventional concrete experiences during rain.

The newly developed rain-resistant concrete is based on the existing design standard strength of 27MPa (25-27-180 mix) and incorporates a high-viscosity special chemical admixture. This effectively prevents material segregation and strength loss caused by rainwater infiltration, which can occur during rainy weather.

Additionally, by applying the high-viscosity special admixture, the company simultaneously addressed the issue of reduced concrete flowability, achieving a flowability of over 600mm. This enables efficient construction that does not require vibration compaction. Sungsin Yanghoe and Sungsin Remicon plan to expand the application of this high-performance concrete technology to a variety of fields, including large-scale projects and urban construction sites where continuous construction is required.

A representative from Sungsin Remicon stated, "This technology is an effective response to the increasingly complex construction environment caused by climate change," and added, "By providing concrete with assured quality even during rainy weather, we can reduce construction delays and enhance overall construction quality."
