A Step Forward in Improving Public Transportation
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 29 that it will launch the Metropolitan Express Bus M7111 and the local city bus 374 on June 1.
The Metropolitan Express Bus M7111, which operates between Unjeong and Sungnyemun, has caused inconvenience to citizens due to irregular service frequency and intervals, resulting from the previous operator's financial difficulties.
In response, Paju City, in cooperation with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for Large Cities, reclaimed the route from the former operator and selected a new transportation company through a bidding process. With the change of operator, bus services are expected to return to normal, alleviating inconvenience for citizens.
Additionally, with the discontinuation of Seoul Bus 774, which previously ran from Paju-eup to Seoul, Paju City established Gyeonggi Bus 374, connecting Paju-eup to Gupabal Station, after going through consultation procedures with Gyeonggi Province and Goyang City.
The establishment of the 374 route was achieved after more than a year of discussions among relevant agencies, selection and negotiation with the transportation company, and preparations for operation. Prior to the official launch, Paju City, together with Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, conducted a final inspection of the preparations for the 374 route on May 28. Service will begin with the first bus at 4:40 a.m. on June 1.
Park Hansu, head of the Bus Policy Division, stated, "As Paju changes and society changes, our buses are also continuously evolving," adding, "We will strive to improve and develop Paju's transportation by reorganizing bus routes to meet changes in the transportation system and demand."
