Reducing Electronic Waste and Lowering Repair Costs
Eco-Friendly and Convenient... Service Centers Expanded to 158 Locations
Samsung Electronics Service is expanding its 'foldable phone display unit repair' service. This initiative not only reduces electronic waste emissions but also lowers repair costs for customers, thereby promoting both environmental sustainability and convenience.
On May 29, Samsung Electronics Service announced that, starting June 1, it will increase the number of service centers offering 'foldable phone display unit repair' from 147 to 158 locations. The newly added centers include Euljiro and Yeouido in Seoul; Yongin-Guseong in Gyeonggi Province; Taebaek in Gangwon Province; Bukcheon and Sejong in Chungcheong Province; and Geochang, Mungyeong, Sangju, Yeongdeok, and Miryang in Gyeongsang Province.

'Display unit repair' is an eco-friendly repair method that involves disassembling the display component, bezel, and case, and replacing only the necessary parts. Samsung was the first in the industry to introduce this method. Because each component is meticulously disassembled and repaired, advanced specialized equipment and highly skilled engineers are required.
This approach minimizes part replacement and maximizes the reuse of usable components, effectively reducing electronic waste (e-waste) emissions. As a result, it also alleviates the repair cost burden for customers. Although the precise disassembly and reassembly process increases the repair time, customers can save an average of 26% (up to 37%) on repair costs.
Since introducing 'display unit repair' in 2019, Samsung Electronics Service has steadily expanded the range of eligible models and service locations. For Galaxy S series models, display unit repair is available at all service centers nationwide. For foldable phones, the service began at 13 locations in January last year and has been gradually expanded. By next month, it will be available at 158 locations.
Park Sungje, head of the technology team (Executive Director) at Samsung Electronics Service, stated, "We are strengthening our services to provide a differentiated Galaxy user experience," adding, "We will continue to deliver services that consider both our customers and the environment."
