21st Presidential Election Early Voting Turnout Hits Record High of 2.24% as of 8 a.m.

As of 8:00 a.m. on May 29, the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout stood at 2.24%. This is the highest early voting turnout rate recorded at this hour in history.

The National Election Commission announced that, as of 8:00 a.m., 995,261 out of a total of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had cast their ballots.

The nationwide average early voting turnout rate is 2.24%. Since the early voting system was first introduced in nationwide elections for the June 4, 2014 local elections, this is the highest turnout rate at this hour for any nationwide election, excluding by-elections and re-elections.

So far, Jeonnam has recorded the highest turnout rate at 4.44%, followed by Jeonbuk at 4.14% and Gwangju at 3.76%. Daegu has recorded the lowest turnout rate at 1.29%.

Early voting will take place over two days, from May 29 to May 30. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring a valid ID and visit an early voting station.
