'AI and Digital Technology Commercialization Strategy Dialogue' Held
On May 28, Minister of Science and ICT Yoo Sangim stated, "In order to respond to the innovation across industries brought about by artificial intelligence and digital transformation, the government will establish a collaborative system for technology commercialization in the information and communications technology sector."
Minister Yoo, attending the 'AI·Digital Technology Commercialization Strategy Dialogue' held at Koreana Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, emphasized, "ICT technology is at the core of the intensifying global technological hegemony competition, and ICT technology commercialization will be an important foundation for overcoming the low-growth crisis facing Korea and for advancing as a global technology leader."
This strategy dialogue was organized as a follow-up to the National Technology Commercialization Vision Declaration Ceremony held on April 30, bringing together the Ministry of Science and ICT, as well as major organizations from industry, academia, and research sectors, to explore ways to vitalize technology commercialization specialized in the ICT field.
On this day, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced three major tasks for the development of the ICT technology commercialization ecosystem.
First, through the 'Establishment of an Industry-Centered R&D System and Strengthening of Follow-up Support,' the ministry plans to mandate industry participation in applied and development R&D, and to increase support so that research outcomes can be connected to actual commercialization and productization.
The second task is 'Leading Technology Commercialization Centered on ICT Government-Funded Research Institutes.' The ministry will increase support for business-oriented research activities at government-funded research institutes, and introduce various methods to utilize research results, such as securing international standard patents and planning-based startups.
In addition, through 'Strengthening the Fostering of ICT Technology Commercialization Companies,' the ministry aims to promote technology-based startups, including those founded by researchers, and to expand investment support for challenging technology startups by utilizing public-private partnership funds and other means.
Along with these initiatives, the current status of technology commercialization in AI, AI semiconductors, and quantum fields was also shared and discussed. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to further elaborate the ICT technology commercialization support measures derived from this strategy dialogue and to initiate full-scale inter-ministerial consultations in the future.
