Real-time Check and Payment via KakaoTalk and Naver
800 Won Tax Deduction Per Notice
On May 28, Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it is actively promoting the transition to a future-oriented AI ecological city and responding to climate change carbon neutrality by reducing the use of paper notices.
Mobile electronic notices are an eco-friendly local tax notification system that allows residents to receive regular local tax bills, such as property tax and automobile tax, via smartphone apps (KakaoTalk, Naver) instead of paper notices, and to pay them in a one-stop process.
Taxpayers can check their local tax notifications and make payments easily at any time and from anywhere using their smartphones. To sign up, individuals can complete an identity verification process on electronic document service screens such as Kakao and Naver.
To encourage sign-ups for mobile electronic notices, the city revised its ordinance in March, increasing the tax deduction benefit from 500 won to 800 won per regular notice.
In particular, the city designated April and May of this year as a focused sign-up and promotional period. As a result, it actively sent KakaoTalk notifications to about 36,000 taxpayers who paid regular local taxes three or more times a year, conducted on-site promotional visits with NH Nonghyup Bank to distribute public interest allowances, carried out offline promotions via social media, and encouraged all Suncheon City employees to enroll. These efforts led to approximately 7,000 citizens signing up for electronic notices within just two months.
Mobile electronic notices eliminate concerns about not receiving or losing paper notices, reduce the risk of missing payment deadlines, and enhance taxpayer convenience. They also help save budget costs by reducing paper notices and lower the delinquency rate.
A city official stated, "We will promote various campaigns to increase the electronic notification payment rate for regular local taxes from the current 10% to 20% by the end of the year," adding, "We will establish an electronic notification system centered on platforms frequently used by citizens so that taxpayers can enjoy a more convenient and smart tax administration environment."
