On May 28, Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Youngrok made an appeal, stating, "Voting is power, hope, and change. I sincerely hope that everyone will vote to restart the heart of Korea, which has come to a halt, and to open a greater future for Jeollanam-do."
Governor Kim delivered this message in a public statement encouraging participation in the June 3rd presidential election, held at the provincial office briefing room on the same day. He said, "We have experienced a crisis in which the constitutional order of Korea collapsed in an instant due to an illegal emergency martial law. Korea, which was regained by the hands of our great people, now stands at a moment to write a new history with our precious votes. It is time to usher in an era of popular sovereignty, where the people are the true owners of the nation."
He explained the complex crises currently facing Korea, including the collapse of livelihoods, zero economic growth, rapidly changing global circumstances, local extinction, the climate crisis, and deepening social divisions and conflicts. He repeatedly emphasized the importance of voting.
Governor Kim stressed, "This election is not just a simple election. It is a crucial choice to restore justice, revive the economy, and build a better Korea. We need new leadership to overcome these crises. It is the vote of the people of the province that will choose that leadership."
He also highlighted that future growth engines such as renewable energy, the space industry, AI, biotechnology, and animation are beginning in Jeollanam-do, and explained the special significance this election holds for the province.
Governor Kim reiterated, "When the people of the province demonstrate their firm will through voting, Jeollanam-do can rise as the center of Korea's future high-tech industries. As early voting will be held for two days starting from the 29th, I once again urge all citizens?including office workers, small business owners, youth, and elderly voters?to actively participate in the election."
He added, "The desire for democratization in 1987 toppled dictatorship, and in June 2025, we will revive justice and democracy through voting. Let us change Korea through the voting revolution of the people of the province."
