Damyang County in South Jeolla Province and Damyang Police Station have established a cooperative system to prevent missing incidents involving dementia patients and to enable a swift response in the event of an occurrence.
Damyang County announced on the 28th that it signed a business agreement with Damyang Police Station (represented by Chief of Investigation Ahn Kyungsoo) on the 27th in the director's office on the second floor of the public health center to prevent missing dementia patients and enable early detection.
This agreement was arranged in response to growing concerns about missing incidents due to the increasing number of dementia patients. It aims to prevent such incidents in advance through information sharing and a close cooperation system between related agencies, and to facilitate early detection if a missing incident occurs.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate in the following areas: sharing information on patients registered with the Dementia Safety Center; distributing and managing wandering detection devices such as smart tags; and establishing a rapid search and joint response system in the event of a missing incident.
Kim Dongjin, Director of the Public Health Center, stated, "This agreement will serve as an important opportunity to create an environment where dementia patients and their families can feel more secure in their daily lives," and added, "We will continue to work together to realize a dementia-friendly society."
Ahn Kyungsoo, Chief of Investigation at Damyang Police Station, emphasized, "A missing dementia patient is not just a simple missing case; it is an issue directly connected to life," and stated, "The police will also strengthen our role as protectors of the local community."
Meanwhile, Damyang County is striving to create a dementia-friendly environment by providing a variety of dementia management services centered on the Dementia Safety Center, including early screening and registration management, family support, and cognitive enhancement programs.
