Outstanding in Quality, Taste, and Safety
Jeonnam Province has selected ten outstanding brands, including "Ttangkkeut Haetsal" from Haenam, as the "Top 10 High-Quality Brand Rice of the Year in Jeonnam," an initiative aimed at producing the highest quality premium rice, promoting rice consumption, and increasing farmers' income.
The evaluation of the Jeonnam Top 10 High-Quality Brand Rice was conducted to ensure fairness and objectivity. The province commissioned four specialized analysis institutions?the Korea Food Research Institute, the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, the Agricultural Research and Extension Services, and the Institute of Health and Environment?to carry out taste tests, appearance quality assessments, variety mixing and mechanical quality checks, and safety inspections.
This year, the grand prize was awarded to "Ttangkkeut Haetsal" from Haenam. The brand received consistently high marks across all external evaluations, and achieved particularly strong scores for its growth in single-variety cultivation and export performance.
The top excellence award went to "Armi Rice" from Jangheung. The excellence awards were given to "Dalmaji Rice" from Yeongam, "House of Four Seasons" from Yeonggwang, and "Wanggeoni Tamnaen Rice" from Naju. Encouragement awards were presented to "Hwangtorang Rice" from Muan, "Nanwoori" from Suncheon, "Premium Hopyeong" from Gangjin, "Ureong Saeksimi" from Hampyeong, and "Bobaejinmi Rice" from Jindo.
The ten selected brands will receive a total of 150 million won in incentives, distributed differentially to support quality improvement, sales promotion, and marketing of the brand rice.
Among this year's top ten brands, nine are of the Saecheongmu variety developed by Jeonnam Province, once again proving the superior quality and taste of this rice.
Saecheongmu rice is a variety developed by Jeonnam Province in 2016 to suit the region's characteristics. It is known for its sticky and glossy texture when cooked. Above all, its cultivation stability has made it highly popular among farmers, and it now accounts for 61% of the rice cultivation area in Jeonnam, making it the province's representative variety.
Park Hyunsik, Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Jeonnam Province, stated, "We plan to pioneer global markets so that Jeonnam's high-quality rice can reach the world," adding, "We will strive to establish Jeonnam rice as a trusted brand among consumers both at home and abroad."
