Jinhae Naval Base Command: "Creating a Clean Sea Together"

Joint Public-Private-Military Marine Cleanup Activity Held

The Jinhae Naval Base Command (hereinafter referred to as "Jinhae Base Command") held a joint public-private-military marine environment cleanup activity on May 28 in the area around Jinhaeru in Jinhae-gu, Changwon City, to commemorate Sea Day (May 31 every year), together with Jinhae District Office, local fishermen, and about 70 participants.

The event focused on Jinhaeru and Sokcheon Port, popular local recreational spots. Participants walked along the coastal trail, collecting discarded trash and retrieving debris washed up on the shore.

After receiving education on the importance of the sea as a vital foundation for the lives of the public, private, and military sectors alike, and on the necessity of protecting it, participants worked up a sweat collecting discarded PET bottles, plastic bags, and abandoned fishing gear from the coastline. Over the course of two hours, they cleaned approximately 2.5 kilometers of coastline and collected about 5 tons of waste.

Through this joint marine environment cleanup activity, Jinhae Base Command focused on cleaning chronic pollution areas along the coast and intensively removed sediment and marine debris around sea inlets and drainage structures, thereby contributing to the proactive prevention of water quality deterioration and marine pollution during heavy summer rains.

Park Mikyung, environmental management officer at Jinhae Base Command, said, "This joint marine cleanup was a meaningful opportunity to appreciate the value of the sea together with the local community," adding, "We will continue our ongoing efforts to protect a clean marine environment in the future."
