The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on May 28 that it is recruiting participating companies that require renovation or repair of outdated shared facilities at their workplaces, as part of the Automotive Industry Win-Win Agreement Expansion Support Project.
The Automotive Industry Win-Win Agreement Expansion Support Project is a region- and industry-specific job creation support initiative backed by Gwangju City and the Ministry of Employment and Labor. It was launched to address workforce shortages in the local automotive industry and to strengthen industrial competitiveness.
Last year, six companies participated in the shared facility improvement support project, renovating and repairing outdated in-house cafeterias, restrooms, and break rooms, thereby improving the working environment.
In addition, during the project, the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry held meetings and briefing sessions with companies located in the Pyeongdong Industrial Complex and Hanam Industrial Complex to listen to on-site feedback and actively reflect it in the project. As a result, the project is evaluated to have had positive effects, including a reduction in the turnover rate of new employees and increased retention of incumbent workers.
Building on this positive response, this year the number of participating companies and the scale of support will be expanded, targeting automotive parts manufacturers and Hyundai and Kia partner companies. A total of 15 companies will be selected, with support of up to 9 million won per company. According to the detailed support conditions, up to 4.5 million won will be provided for hiring one regular employee after March 24, and up to 9 million won for hiring two or more regular employees.
Together with this shared facility improvement support project, other initiatives such as the "Leap Incentive," "Settlement Support Fund," and "Health Checkup Support" aimed at enhancing worker welfare and creating a stable working environment are also proving highly popular, with applications closing early due to high participation rates from both companies and workers.
Han Sangwon, Chairman of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated, "Through support for the renovation and repair of shared facilities, we aim to create a virtuous cycle where the working environment is substantially improved for employees, which naturally leads to new employment and, ultimately, to strengthened corporate competitiveness. To this end, we will listen even more closely to the voices from the field and actively reflect them in our policies and projects."
