Appealing for Support for Kim Moonsoo and Emphasizing Unity
"We Failed to Meet the Expectations of Our Supporters"
Requesting Cooperation from Han Donghoon and Hong Joonpyo
Kwon Seongdong, floor leader of the People Power Party, once again expressed his remorse on May 28 while appealing for support for presidential candidate Kim Moonsoo. He also remarked that he had overlooked the fact that the president should serve as a role model for the nation.
Through social media on this day, Kwon stated, "After nine presidential elections since democratization in 1987, I wonder if, caught up in partisan logic, we have at some point forgotten the basics," adding, "The president is the symbol of the country and a guide for our children. We must be able to teach our children, 'If you live like that, you can become president.'"
He pointed out that in the pursuit of finding a 'candidate who can win' in every election, there was a failure to make an effort to find someone who could truly represent the people.
He continued, "As the floor leader of the People Power Party and as a co-chair of the election committee, I have traveled across the country for campaign rallies and have heard from many people that candidate Kim Moonsoo and his wife Seol Nanyeong are truly admirable individuals," adding, "I have also often heard that their daughter has been raised so well that they can be proud of her anywhere."
He stressed that candidate Kim has lived a life worthy of being presented to the people. Kwon added, "Candidate Kim is reminding us of the precious conservative values we had forgotten, such as family and education."
He also once again apologized for issues related to state affairs, martial law, impeachment, and controversies over the presidential primary since the launch of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration. Kwon said, "Since the launch of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, there have been instances where we failed to meet the expectations of many who supported our party. I am well aware that we have caused disappointment, particularly due to issues such as martial law, impeachment, and noise during the presidential primary process," adding, "I sincerely apologize."
Kwon also called for party unity. Referring to former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo's declaration of support for Kim Moonsoo, he said, "He reaffirmed that we are one team." He went on to say, "I also ask former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon, who joined Kim Moonsoo at the Dobong campaign rally last time, to once again join hands with candidate Kim at the campaign site and add strength to our victory." Addressing former Daegu Mayor Hong Joonpyo, who left the party and went to the United States after losing the primary, Kwon earnestly requested, "Now that you have returned to Korea, I sincerely ask you to cast your vote for candidate Kim Moonsoo."
