The infant and toddler health screening is conducted in eight stages according to growth milestones for children under six years old. The screening thoroughly examines and provides counseling on a total of 24 items across five categories: physical measurements (height, weight, head circumference, etc.), medical history and examination, health education and counseling, and oral examination.
The infant and toddler health screening is very important, as it allows for regular monitoring according to the child's growth and development period, enabling early detection of developmental delays and various diseases, and facilitating appropriate intervention.
Under this support program, eligible children can receive health screenings at designated centers without any cost, simply by making an advance reservation and visiting the facility.
The public health center also provides financial support for the cost of examinations and consultations directly required for developmental assessments for infants and toddlers who are recommended for further evaluation based on the developmental screening results.
Subscribers and dependents of the National Health Insurance can receive up to 200,000 won in examination fee support, while medical aid beneficiaries and those in the lower-income bracket can receive up to 400,000 won, thereby reducing the financial burden.
Information about eligibility for infant and toddler screening and designated medical institutions is available through the National Health Insurance Service customer center or website. For more details, contact the Health Promotion Division at the public health center.
Son Heekyung, head of the public health center, stated, "Infant and toddler screening is a crucial first step in checking our children's growth and development and identifying potential problems early to ensure a healthy future. I ask for parents' active interest and participation so that eligible infants and toddlers do not miss the appropriate screening period and can receive timely checkups."
