According to the Associated Press on the 27th (local time), President Trump communicated his decision to pardon the Chrisley couple to their daughter by phone that day.
The Chrisley couple gained fame by appearing on a reality show that showcased the glamorous lives and daily routines of Southern real estate developers in the United States.
However, in 2022, the couple was convicted after submitting forged documents to a bank in the Atlanta area of Georgia to secure a $30 million (approximately 41.2 billion won) loan, then filing for bankruptcy and failing to repay $20 million (approximately 27.5 billion won). They were also found guilty of concealing income while flaunting a luxurious lifestyle, which included high-end cars, designer clothing, real estate, and travel.
The court sentenced the husband to 12 years in prison and the wife to 7 years for fraud and tax evasion. However, the Chrisley couple has claimed they are victims of an unfair judicial system, arguing that they were targeted by prosecutors because they are celebrities with conservative values.
At last year’s Republican National Convention, the couple’s daughter appeared as a speaker and compared her family to President Trump, who has also faced various indictments. The daughter, Savannah Chrisley, stated, "We were tried in the most Democratic-leaning district court in Georgia, and the prosecutor called my parents 'the Trumps of the South.'"
The husband is currently incarcerated in a federal prison, while the wife was released after serving her reduced sentence.
President Trump pardoned the majority of those involved in the 2021 Capitol riot. More recently, he has also issued pardons for conservatives and supporters who were indicted and convicted during the Biden administration. Just the previous day, President Trump pardoned a former Virginia sheriff who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of bribery and fraud.
Through his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump described the Department of Justice under the Biden administration as "corrupt," emphasizing, "This sheriff is a victim of an overzealous Biden DOJ and a good person who was persecuted and left to die by radical leftist monsters."
