The Daejeon Office of Education announced that at the 54th National Youth Sports Festival, which concluded on May 27, the Daejeon team achieved its best-ever results, winning a total of 84 medals: 30 gold, 26 silver, and 28 bronze.
The team competed in a total of 33 events, including athletics, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo, and far exceeded its original goal of winning more than 63 medals?specifically, 20 gold, 11 silver, and 32 bronze medals.
In particular, on the final day of the festival, May 27, the team demonstrated its strength in group events such as table tennis, handball, soft tennis, and fencing, sweeping up 4 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Kim Heejung, Director of the Department of Physical Education, Arts, and Health at the Daejeon Office of Education, stated, "This inspiring result was made possible by the outstanding performances of our student athletes, the dedicated efforts of their coaches, and the enthusiastic support of parents."
