Trump Says "If Canada Becomes 51st U.S. State, Golden Dome Won't Cost Them a Penny"

If They Remain a Separate Country, It Will Cost 84 Trillion Won

On May 27 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the possibility of Canada joining his "Golden Dome" (U.S. missile defense network) initiative, stating, "If they become the 51st state of the United States, it won't cost them a penny."

President Trump wrote on his social networking service (SNS) account that day, "They are considering this proposal," adding the above remarks.

He said, "Canada wants to be part of America's wonderful Golden Dome system," and explained, "If they remain a separate country, it (the Golden Dome) will cost them $61 billion."

Previously, President Trump projected that constructing the Golden Dome would cost $175 billion, but the U.S. Congressional Budget Office estimates that it could cost up to $542 billion over the next 20 years.

Regarding this, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said at a press conference on May 21, as reported by BBC and others, "Canada has the capacity to complete the Golden Dome through investment cooperation. The Golden Dome is an issue we are currently reviewing." He also revealed that he had several phone conversations with President Trump regarding the Golden Dome.
