"Reflecting on the Spirit of Sacrifice for the Nation"... Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs Holds 81st Memorial for Park Chajeong

A memorial ceremony was held to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of independence activist Park Chajeong, who served as the commander of the Joseon Volunteer Corps during the Japanese colonial period, marking the 81st anniversary of her death.

The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs (Chief Lee Namil) announced that it held the memorial ceremony on May 27 in front of the statue of Park Chajeong, located in Dongnae-gu, Busan. The event was attended by students from Park Chajeong's alma mater, Dongnae Girls' High School, as well as members of veterans' organizations and local citizens.

Park Chajeong was born in 1910 in Dongnae, Busan. After graduating from Dongnae Ilsin Girls' School (now Dongnae Girls' High School) in 1929, she participated in the Geunuhoe and joined the anti-Japanese independence movement. Later, as the commander of the Joseon Volunteer Corps, she fought against the Japanese army on the Chinese front, where she was shot and wounded. Due to complications from her injuries, she died on May 27, 1944, at the age of 34.

Lee Namil, Chief of the Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs, stated, "I hope that through today's memorial ceremony, we can reflect on the significance of Park Chajeong's heroic deeds and sacrifice for the independence of our country," and added, "I am deeply grateful for the dedication of the students of Dongnae Girls' High School who honor Park Chajeong every year."

The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs plans to continue organizing various commemorative events to promote the spirit of independence activists, including Park Chajeong.
