Spun Off from New Business Incubator
Second Case Following Healthcare Startup
Developing AI-Based Data Center Solutions
LG Electronics' North America Innovation Center (LG Nova) is nurturing the American cleantech startup 'Pado AI Orchestration,' which develops artificial intelligence (AI)-based energy management solutions, by spinning it off as an independent corporation.
According to LG Electronics on May 28, Pado originated as a new business incubation team within LG Nova and was recently spun off as an independent corporation. Following the healthcare startup 'Prime Focus Health' in May of last year, this marks the second case of a spin-off from LG Nova.
Pado's solution utilizes AI and machine learning technologies to analyze energy demand and supply in real time and to predict power loads and costs. This can enhance the stability and efficiency of energy operations for enterprises and can also be used to build services such as distributed power grids and smart grids from an energy infrastructure perspective.
In January, at CES 2025, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, Lee Seokwoo, Vice President of LG Nova, explained the company's technology. LG Electronics.
Recently, Pado has also begun developing next-generation data center energy optimization solutions in collaboration with the global energy tech company 'Mara.' The two companies are developing an AI-based solution that optimizes energy supply and load management in response to real-time changes in power demand, targeting hyperscale data centers with over 100,000 servers. Mara possesses extensive infrastructure and expertise in data center-based energy solutions, and it is expected that this will create strong synergy with Pado's technological capabilities.
Data centers, which require a stable 24-hour power supply, experience uneven power consumption depending on the time of day. By using this solution, operators can utilize energy stored during peak load times through energy storage systems or distribute power usage to offset instability in external power grids. Data center operators can not only reduce costs but also realize environmentally friendly values and contribute to sustainability.
Lee Seokwoo, Vice President of LG Nova, said, "As the energy industry reaches a technology-driven turning point, LG Nova will continue to discover and foster innovative new businesses of our own to lead this transformation."
LG Nova was established in Silicon Valley, USA, at the end of 2020 to foster new businesses and discover new business models in future fields. It plays a role in identifying innovative business models by collaborating with external startups in areas such as health tech, clean tech, AI, and mobility. It is a place where startups with innovative technologies and ideas actively exchange talent and technology with LG Nova.
Every year, LG Nova hosts the 'Innovation Festival,' an event where global startups, investors, and entrepreneurs gather for networking, as well as the 'Mission for the Future' idea contest, which seeks collaboration opportunities with innovative startups for new business development. Recently, LG Nova has also established a partner alliance encompassing large corporations and government organizations, thereby strengthening collaboration systems across various industries and between the public and private sectors. This is intended to secure talent and technology and lay the foundation for future growth engines in the global big tech arena, based on the 3B (Build, Buy, Borrow) strategy, by interacting with innovative companies.
