Gangseo District Provides 'Safety Equipment' for Single-Person and Other Vulnerable Households Jin Kyohun, Mayor of Gangseo District. Provided by Gangseo District.

According to a survey on the status of single-person households in Seoul, the crime victimization rate for single-person households is 5.4%, which is higher than the rate for all households (3.7%). Gangseo District has also recorded the highest increase in single-person households among Seoul’s districts over the past 10 years, at 125.9%.

In response, the district is implementing a support project for safety equipment to prevent crime and create a safer community. The eligible recipients are single-person households, households vulnerable to residential security such as multi-household and multi-family residences, and victims of stalking crimes. Single-person households will receive either a home CCTV or a smart doorbell, along with a safety device for the front door.

Priority will be determined based on factors such as the type of residence, floor level, and whether the applicant is a youth preparing for independence. Households vulnerable to residential security will be provided with an exterior wall intrusion detection device. The beneficiaries are 10 multi-household or multi-family residences, excluding apartments, with a jeonse or monthly rent deposit of 250 million won or less. Victims of stalking crimes will receive a set of four items: a home CCTV, a front door safety device, a smart doorbell, and a voice-activated wireless emergency bell.

Single-person households and households vulnerable to residential security can apply in person at the relevant department or by email (insun1110@gangseo.seoul.kr) until June 20. Victims of stalking crimes can receive support through a recommendation from the Gangseo Police Station. Further details are available on the Gangseo District Office website.

Jin Kyohun, Mayor of Gangseo District, said, “I hope this safety equipment support project will help alleviate residents’ anxiety about crime,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a living environment where residents can feel safe and secure.”
