Gyeonggi Province Receives 796 Applications for Book Clubs... 400 to Be Selected on May 30

A total of 796 book clubs have applied for the "Book Club Revitalization" project promoted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.


Earlier, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it would select 400 clubs and provide each with books worth 400,000 won. In addition, the selected clubs will receive author lecture fees (for 45 teams), customized individual mentoring (for 40 teams), and operational capacity-building training (a total of four sessions from July to October).


According to the current application status, 594 clubs (74.6%) are from the southern region, while 202 clubs (25.4%) are from the northern region. All 31 cities and counties in the province participated.

Participants include a wide range of people, from students and homemakers to self-employed individuals and office workers. The total number of members in all applying clubs is 6,761. By age group, those in their 40s made up the largest proportion at 45.6%, followed by those in their 50s (22.3%), 30s (15.1%), 20s (9.5%), 60 and older (7.2%), and teenagers (0.3%).


The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will conduct the club selection review over two days, May 28 and 29, and announce the results after 5 p.m. on May 30 on the website of the Gyeonggi Book Club Support Center.


Kang Hyunseok, Director of the Future Lifelong Education Bureau of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, "Based on the high level of participation from residents, we will strive to further expand the local reading ecosystem through fair evaluation and systematic post-selection support."
