Sh Suhyup Bank MBN Women's Open Title Defense
Missing the Cut at the E1 Charity Open Was a Blessing, Not a Shock
"This Is a Course I Like. I Will Aim for a Great Result"
Rising star Ye Won Lee is aiming for her second consecutive victory.
The Sh Suhyup Bank MBN Women's Open, part of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, will be held over three days starting May 30 at The Starhue in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province (par 72, 6,787 yards). This tournament, with a total prize fund of 1 billion won, is expected to be fiercely competitive. Ye Won Lee has been dominating the early part of this year's KLPGA Tour. She has competed in eight tournaments and claimed three victories. She currently leads in every major category, including most wins, prize money ranking (752,964,532 won), Player of the Year points (291 points), and scoring average (69.9167 strokes).
Ye Won Lee is challenging for her second straight win at this event. Last month, she successfully defended her title for the first time in her career at the Doosan Construction We’ve Championship, which helped ease the pressure of defending a title. Having won the Sh Suhyup Bank MBN Women's Open last year, she is more confident than anyone in her course strategy.
Last week, she missed the cut at the E1 Charity Open. It was her first over-par score of the year. This was her first missed cut in seven months, since the Hite Jinro Championship in October last year. Since her debut, Ye Won Lee has only missed the cut six times.
However, this missed cut is expected to be more of a blessing than a shock. Thanks to missing the cut at the E1 Charity Open, she was able to enjoy an unexpected and much-needed break. With her energy recharged, she is aiming for her fourth win of the season and her second title defense this year. Ye Won Lee stated, "This is a course I like, and I have good memories from last year when I won without a single bogey. I will use those memories to challenge for another title defense this year. After getting plenty of rest, I have improved my shot feel and overall condition, so I will approach the tournament with confidence and aim for a great result."
