Prosecution Again Demands "One Year in Prison and Disclosure Order"
Includes 40 Hours of Sexual Violence Treatment and Employment Restrictions
Suspended Sentence in First Trial... Both Sides Appeal
Kim Says "Ashamed and Sorry... Will Live in Repentance"
Kim (25), a fourth-year medical student at a medical school in Seoul, who was indicted on charges of secretly filming nude images of women he was dating, was again sentenced to a prison term in the appellate trial.
On May 27, the Criminal Division 1-3 of the Seoul Northern District Court (Presiding Judges Yoon Woonggi, Kim Taegyun, and Won Jeongsuk) held the final hearing of the appellate trial for Kim, who was indicted for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (filming and distributing images using cameras, etc.).
The prosecution requested a sentence of one year in prison for Kim, along with 40 hours of participation in a sexual violence treatment program, an order for registration and public disclosure of personal information, and a one-year restriction on employment at institutions related to children and adolescents.
Kim was indicted on charges of illegally filming the bodies of two women on a total of 16 occasions from September 2022 to April 2023. One of the victims was reportedly a woman he was dating. More than 100 photos of the victims' bodies were found stored on Kim's mobile phone.
In the first trial, Kim was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program, and received a three-year restriction on employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities. However, the prosecution appealed, arguing that the sentence was too lenient, and Kim is also contesting some of the charges on legal grounds.
In court that day, Kim stated, "I now painfully realize how much I have hurt the victim," and added, "I am ashamed and deeply sorry. I will live my life in repentance."
Meanwhile, the court scheduled the sentencing for June 24 at 10:30 a.m.
