The Jeonnam Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea (Chairman: Joo Cheolhyeon) issued a statement on May 27 strongly condemning Lee Nakyon, Senior Advisor of the New Future Democratic Party, for holding an emergency press conference, declaring his support for Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party candidate, and mentioning the formation of a "coalition government."
The Jeonnam Chapter stated, "Mr. Lee Nakyon, this morning, not only crossed the line with excessive criticism toward the Democratic Party and candidate Lee Jaemyung, but also officially expressed his support for Kim Moonsu of the People Power Party," adding, "This is an irrational collusion with forces attempting to undermine democracy and constitutes a political betrayal."
The statement continued, "Although Mr. Lee Nakyon has held key positions such as National Assembly member, Prime Minister, and party leader under the Democratic Party's name, he raised suspicions against candidate Lee Jaemyung in the last presidential election, which in effect contributed to the election of Yoon Sukyeol," and criticized, "The result was the devastation of people's livelihoods, destruction of constitutional order, and the birth of a regime akin to insurrection."
It also stated, "The remark that there was a 'principled agreement to form a coalition government with candidate Kim Moonsu' is a shocking admission of collusion with the People Power Party, a force hostile to democracy and constitutional order," and strongly denounced, "Mr. Lee Nakyon, the epitome of political opportunism, is not even qualified to speak of democracy."
Furthermore, the statement emphasized, "The real monster is the People Power Party, which led unconstitutional and illegal acts of insurrection, and the public clearly recognizes that Mr. Lee Nakyon, who seeks power by joining hands with them, is no different."
The Jeonnam Chapter stated that the June 3 early presidential election is not simply about regime change, but is the people's judgment to end the monstrous insurrectionist regime and restore democracy and constitutional order, and declared that the people of Jeonnam will decisively judge any collusion with insurrectionist forces through an overwhelming vote.
