9.9 Psychotherapy Sessions Per Week, Twice the Average
98% Outpatient Visit Rate Within 30 Days After Discharge
Jeonnam National University Hospital announced on May 27 that it has received a Grade 1 rating for the third consecutive time in the "Mental Health Inpatient Care Appropriateness Assessment" conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.
According to the results of the "2023 Mental Health Inpatient Care Appropriateness Assessment" released by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service on May 21, Jeonnam National University Hospital scored 92.8 points, earning a Grade 1 rating (awarded to scores of 80 or above). This is an outstanding result, especially when compared to the overall average of 66.5 points and the tertiary general hospital average of 93.8 points.
This assessment was conducted on 415 institutions at the clinic level or higher that claimed psychiatric inpatient medical fees between August 2023 and January of the previous year. The main evaluation criteria included seven assessment indicators and two monitoring indicators: ▲ implementation rate of functional assessments at admission and discharge ▲ implementation rate of assessments for psychiatric symptoms or adverse reactions during hospitalization ▲ frequency of psychotherapy (psychotherapy, individual psychotherapy) per week ▲ rate of day hospital or outpatient visits within 30 days after discharge, among others.
Jeonnam National University Hospital achieved a top-tier performance in the "frequency of psychotherapy per week" category, recording 9.9 sessions, which is more than double the tertiary general hospital average of 4.8 sessions. This demonstrates that Jeonnam National University Hospital provides more intensive and systematic psychiatric treatment services to inpatients.
Additionally, the hospital achieved a 98% rate in "day hospital or outpatient visits within 30 days after discharge," significantly surpassing the tertiary general hospital average of 92.3%. This proves the excellence of the hospital's ongoing treatment linkage and management after discharge. In the "community service referral rate (schizophrenia)" category, the hospital achieved 100%, exceeding the tertiary general hospital average of 99.7%. This indicates that a well-established system for systematic linkage is in place to support the social reintegration and community adaptation of patients with mental disorders.
Jeonnam National University Hospital achieved 100% in both the "implementation rate of functional assessments at admission" and the "implementation rate of functional assessments at discharge." The "readmission rate within 30 days after discharge" was 10.7%, which is lower than both the overall average of 18.9% and the tertiary general hospital average of 10.9%, demonstrating the continuity and effectiveness of treatment.
Jung Shin, Director of Jeonnam National University Hospital, stated, "Achieving a Grade 1 rating for the third consecutive time is the result of our hospital's ongoing efforts to improve quality in the Department of Psychiatry and our commitment to providing patient-centered treatment services." He added, "Our performance, which greatly exceeds the tertiary general hospital average in key areas such as the implementation of psychotherapy and community linkage, demonstrates that our hospital's mental health care services are of the highest standard."
