Baekgyeongi and Ppugongi Character Sculptures
"I♡PKNU" Sign Installed at Main Gate Plaza
A photo zone has been set up on campus where visitors can create memories with the university's symbolic characters.
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) announced that it established a photo zone at the main gate plaza and held an unveiling ceremony on May 27.
Pukyong National University installed sculptures of its symbolic characters, Baekgyeongi and Ppugongi, along with an 'I♡PKNU' sign in front of the quince tree at the main gate plaza, and officially opened the photo zone for use starting that day.
In 2016, Pukyong National University created the main gate plaza by removing all gate pillars as part of a main gate improvement project. Since then, the plaza has served as a space for communication and interaction among local residents.
Approaching its 80th anniversary next year, Pukyong National University established this photo zone during the 79th anniversary week this year to share the symbolism of its representative space with members of the university and visitors, and to further expand opportunities for communication and exchange.
The newly installed sculptures, Baekgyeongi and Ppugongi, represent the university's symbolic animals?a white whale and a Busan seagull, respectively. These characters have been produced as various goods, such as plush toys, varsity jackets, and keyrings, and are popular among students.
The university explained that these sculptures, together with the quince tree at the main gate plaza, which is estimated to be 250 years old, are emerging as a new landmark of Pukyong National University.
