The pristine island nation of Palau, known as the "Sea Garden of the Gods," has officially confirmed its participation in the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, sparking increased involvement from South Pacific countries.
The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) announced on May 27 that it had signed a participation agreement with the Palau Tourism Authority at the Taipei World Trade Center in Taiwan on May 25.
At the signing ceremony, Kadoi Ruluked, Director General of the Palau Bureau of Tourism, stated, "It is very meaningful for us to join the Yeosu Island Expo," and added, "We will actively cooperate to encourage the participation of other South Pacific island nations, including Fiji and Samoa, as well as Palau."
The Committee participated in the "2025 Taiwan International Tourism Exhibition (TTE)" held from May 23 to 26 to promote the Island Expo internationally. TTE is the largest tourism exhibition in Taiwan, attracting more than 310,000 visitors annually, and is a leading tourism business event in Asia, with participation from over 100 countries, as well as travel agencies, hotels, and airlines.
The Committee operated a promotional booth within the Korea Pavilion, distributing brochures and promotional materials highlighting the symbolism and uniqueness of the Yeosu Island Expo. The Committee also actively introduced the significance and programs of the Island Expo to local visitors. In particular, on-site events and the distribution of merchandise featuring the official mascot "Daseomi" received an enthusiastic response from local attendees, helping to strengthen the Yeosu brand.
At this exhibition, the Committee went beyond simple promotion by meeting directly with major Taiwanese travel agencies such as Collatour, Obok Travel Agency, and Easyfly to discuss concrete cooperation plans.
Lee Jungjun, Director of Planning, emphasized, "We discussed developing travel products linked to the Island Expo and providing incentives to attract foreign tourists," and added, "We are preparing various marketing strategies to ensure these efforts translate into actual demand for travel to Korea."
At the Creator Show held on May 24, local Taiwanese influencers were invited to introduce the Expo, and there was also an opportunity to call for international cooperation and solidarity among representatives from participating countries and tourism cities. The official confirmation of Palau's participation is seen as an opportunity to promote international solidarity among island nations in the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean. The Committee plans to use this achievement as a springboard to attract additional participating countries.
Meanwhile, the Committee will summarize the results of its participation in the Taiwan exhibition and share them with domestic and international tourism-related organizations, while continuing global promotional activities by diversifying its overseas marketing strategies. The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo is establishing itself as a global platform for sharing island culture, environment, and ecology, moving beyond the scope of a simple regional event.
