Urban Regeneration New Deal Project
Improving Old Homes and Commercial Buildings
Revitalizing the Local Business District
Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province is accepting applications from residents for its urban landscape improvement project, which is being promoted as part of the station area urban regeneration New Deal initiative, until July 31.
This project aims to improve the urban environment and revitalize the local commercial district. It is divided into three categories: improvement of the landscape of old residential buildings, enhancement of architectural landscapes, and the creation of a Win-Win Commercial Zone.
First, the old residential landscape improvement project targets single-family, multi-family, and row houses that are over 20 years old. It involves refurbishing external features along alleyways, such as fences, gates, and lighting. Eligible applicants are property owners or tenants who have obtained the owner's consent. Each site is eligible for approximately 5 million won in support for the refurbishment.
The architectural landscape improvement project targets low-rise commercial buildings with one or two floors within the project area. The goal is to enhance the visual environment of the street by giving a unified appearance to external elements such as signs, shop windows, exterior walls, and awnings. Only building owners are eligible to apply, and they can receive up to 20 million won in subsidies, with a required self-contribution of 4 million won.
The Win-Win Commercial Zone creation project supports the remodeling and reuse of commercial properties that have been vacant for more than five years, turning them into startup spaces. If the property owner signs a win-win agreement, such as limiting rent increases, support is provided for both interior and exterior remodeling costs. Two to three properties are expected to be selected.
An official from Yeongju City stated, "This urban landscape improvement project aims to restore vitality to the local commercial district and improve residential conditions by creating tangible improvements to the urban environment for residents. We hope for the active participation of many citizens."
