No-show scams are evolving in various ways. These include the simple form of placing an order or reservation by phone and then failing to show up, as well as more sophisticated methods such as asking a business to purchase goods from another company that the business does not handle, and then stealing the money.

The best way to prevent no-show scams is to ensure that merchants themselves can respond immediately when they receive suspicious contacts.

In response, the Ulleung Police Station has prepared its own promotional flyers and materials, visiting local businesses such as restaurants to raise awareness. They are also conducting promotional activities through various media channels, including SNS (Ulleung Alimi) and local broadcasting.

Choi Daekeun, Chief of the Ulleung Police Station, stated, “No-show scams initially began with methods such as large-scale purchases of goods for military units, but recently they have become more sophisticated, with scammers impersonating celebrities and political party officials. We will do our utmost to ensure that no-show scams cannot take root on Ulleungdo through proactive police outreach.”
