Exchanged at Different Stores
The prosecution has reportedly identified the specific prices of two Chanel handbags that Kim Keonhee's aide, surnamed Yoo, received through Jeon Seongbae, also known as Geonjin Beopsa. The investigation is also focusing on how Yoo exchanged these items for different models at separate stores.
According to legal sources on May 26, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office confirmed through a search and seizure at Chanel Korea that the handbag Yoo received in April 2022 was priced in the 8 million won range at the time, while the handbag delivered in July of the same year was in the 12 million won range.
It was found that Yoo exchanged the 8 million won handbag for another product at a Chanel store in Seoul by paying an additional 850,000 won, and exchanged the 12 million won handbag at another store by paying an extra amount in the 2 million won range.
During the first exchange, a member of Yoon Sukyeol's presidential campaign accompanied Yoo, while during the second exchange, a top-tier Chanel customer with ties to Kim Keonhee was present.
In the prosecution's investigation, Yoo explained, "Jeon asked me to exchange them for something younger people would prefer." However, the prosecution suspects that the exchanges may have been for specific models reflecting Kim Keonhee's preferences.
Both handbags were gifts that Yoon, a former Unification Church executive, attempted to deliver to Kim Keonhee through Jeon. The prosecution is focusing its investigation on whether Yoon used these handbags and luxury items, including a diamond piece valued in the 60 million won range, as channels for making improper requests related to Unification Church affairs.
