Gwangju University Department of Hotel Culinary Sweeps Awards at International Culinary Competition

Gwangju University announced on the 25th that students from the Department of Hotel Culinary and Baking achieved significant results, including winning the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, at the 26th Korea Food Tourism Expo (Korea International Culinary and Baking Competition).


The event was held from May 16 to 18 at Exhibition Hall 2 of the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. It was organized by the Korea Food Tourism Association and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.


The Gwangju University Korea Bakery Team (third-year students Park Jaea, Jung Sebin, and Jung Minseo) won the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award in the baking competition. The Korea Bakery Team (fourth-year student Choi Minsu, third-year students Koo Jimin and Yoon Taehui, and second-year students An Myungseon and Moon Hyundeok) received the Minister of Food and Drug Safety Award in the live competition category. In addition, the K-Bakery A Team (second-year students Seol Daerin, Shim Suan, and Seol Kangmin) won the Seoul Mayor's Award in the baking competition.


A representative from the Department of Hotel Culinary and Baking at Gwangju University stated, "Based on theoretical knowledge in culinary arts, baking, food and beverage, and restaurant management, we focus on mastering the fundamentals, developing practical culinary skills, and cultivating the professional competencies and character required in the field, in order to train top experts in the hotel and food service industry."
