Jeonnam Province Focuses Administrative Efforts on Preventing Summer Agricultural Disasters Jeonnam Provincial Government Office View

On May 25, Jeonnam Province announced that it has established and is implementing measures for agricultural disaster prevention in the summer of 2025, including the operation of an integrated situation room, to prevent summer disasters such as heat waves, typhoons, and heavy rainfall.

This summer, unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to bring heavy rainfall, an increase in the number of heat wave days due to abnormal high temperatures, and longer durations of typhoons lingering over the Korean Peninsula.

Accordingly, Jeonnam Province will operate the "Summer Agricultural Disaster Countermeasure Integrated Situation Room" for five months until October 15.

Jeonnam Province will set up situation rooms at 65 locations, including cities and counties, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, and the Korea Rural Community Corporation. The province plans to establish emergency contact networks, implement 24-hour emergency shifts depending on weather conditions, and provide prompt emergency restoration support to minimize damage to farms.

In addition, Jeonnam Province will establish communication channels with 149 producer groups by field and crop type and the "On-site Agricultural Disaster Response Monitoring Team" to share weather updates and on-site disaster information in real time.

Previously, during the month of April, Jeonnam Province conducted preliminary inspections of 1,729 disaster-vulnerable facilities, 10,645 agricultural production infrastructure sites, and 410 sites under repair and maintenance. The province plans to complete measures for the 72 issues identified before the rainy season begins.

Yoo Deokgyu, Director of the Food and Horticulture Division of Jeonnam Province, stated, "Summer is a season when many natural disasters such as monsoon rains and typhoons occur," and urged, "Please pay attention to weather advisories and make efforts to minimize damage by maintaining drainage channels and installing disaster prevention facilities to secure structures."

Last year in Jeonnam, a total of 14 disasters occurred, including extreme heavy rainfall and abnormal high temperatures, resulting in property damage to 35,568 hectares of crops and 22 hectares of agricultural facilities.
