Free Haircuts and Profile Photo Shoots for Seniors
Starting next month, Seocho-gu in Seoul will officially launch the "Seocho Trendy Photo Booth" program, which supports personal grooming and profile photo shoots for elderly recipients of basic livelihood benefits in the district.
Elderly participants with beauty skills in the senior job program are providing beauty-related services to peers of the same age group. Provided by Seocho-gu.
The "Seocho Trendy Photo Booth" program is one of 2,228 senior job projects currently being operated by Seocho-gu this year. It is a customized welfare program designed to help seniors restore their self-esteem and vitality in life, while also boosting their confidence in daily activities.
In this program, elderly participants with beauty skills who are part of the senior job initiative will directly provide beauty-related services such as haircuts and hand massages. In addition, volunteer seniors specializing in photography will take profile photos and longevity portraits for the participants.
This service will be offered free of charge on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the "Seocho Trendy Beauty Classroom" located on the basement level 1 of the Seocho 1-dong public senior center. Any elderly recipient of basic livelihood benefits who uses the Seocho Central, Yangjae, or Bangbae senior welfare centers can apply for the service by phone or in person at each center.
This year, the district is supporting active social participation among seniors through 2,228 senior job projects. Seniors are actively involved in a variety of fields, including public facility management, local environmental cleanup, childcare and educational support, digital education, and bakery and barista activities.
Through the "No-no Care" (elderly caring for the elderly) program, services such as welfare checks, companionship, and safety inspections are provided to seniors living alone by visiting vulnerable elderly households. In addition, the Smart IT Supporters teach smartphone usage at senior centers, enabling seniors to play important roles in the community as caregivers, educators, and safety managers.
Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Sungsoo stated, "This program is especially meaningful because seniors are not just beneficiaries of welfare, but are participating as providers and leading change in the local community. We will continue to expand various support programs to help restore seniors' self-esteem and promote a vibrant life in their later years."
