On-site Drill at Sowol Art Hall on May 26 for Realistic Disaster Response at Multi-use Facilities
Over 350 Participants Including Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps and National Experience Group
Integrated Connection of Discussion-based Drill (Seongdong-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters) and On-site Drill
Emphasis on the Importance of the Initial Golden Time and Establishment of a Close Inter-agency Cooperation System in the Event of a Disaster
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jung Wonoh) announced that it will conduct the "2025 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill" on May 26 to strengthen practical response capabilities for complex disaster situations.
The "Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill" is a nationwide comprehensive training exercise held annually to minimize damage to residents by responding effectively to actual disaster situations such as large-scale storms and floods, fires, and explosions.
This year's drill will simulate a real complex disaster scenario that could occur at multi-use facilities such as large performance venues. The on-site drill will be held at Sowol Art Hall (281 Wangsimni-ro), Seongdong-gu's representative cultural performance facility with a capacity of 520 seats.
Seongdong-gu plans to conduct both on-site and discussion-based drills simultaneously to accurately replicate real disaster response situations. The drill will connect the Sowol Art Hall site and the Seongdong-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in real time. The focus will be on strengthening the real-time response capabilities and crisis management skills of the Seongdong-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in accordance with the complex nature of disaster scenarios.
In addition, to maximize the use of the disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE) equipment, the disaster safety communication network will be actively utilized throughout the entire drill process.
Approximately 350 participants, including disaster management agencies such as Seongdong-gu Office, Seongdong Fire Station, and Seongdong Police Station, as well as the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps and the National Experience Group, will take part in the drill. The drill will cover: ▲ mass crowd accidents inside the performance hall due to an earthquake ▲ rapid evacuation guidance and first aid ▲ fire suppression ▲ dissemination of information, initial response, and recovery by each agency. The aim is to assess on-site response capabilities and the rapid cooperation system between agencies.
The district plans to emphasize the importance of the initial golden time in the event of a disaster or accident through realistic complex disaster drills, while also enhancing residents' safety awareness and disaster response capabilities by encouraging their direct participation in the drill.
Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "I expect that this 'Safe Korea Drill,' which simulates a real disaster situation, will play a very important role in strengthening our response capabilities against various and complex disasters," adding, "We will continue to put the safety of our residents first and further reinforce our disaster response system."
