A Comprehensive Event Highlighting Advances in Spinal Surgery and Clinical Practice
Seoul Bumin Hospital is opening the 'Kim Yongjung Spine Deformity Center,' named after Director Kim Yongjung, a world-renowned authority in the field of spinal deformity.
Director Kim Yongjung is a leading figure among spine surgeons both in Korea and abroad, having demonstrated outstanding expertise in both clinical and academic domains through 40 years of research on spinal deformity in Korea and the United States.
After graduating from Seoul National University College of Medicine, Dr. Kim worked at Seoul Asan Medical Center, Washington University in St. Louis in the United States, the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), which is the world's top hospital in the field of orthopedics, and Columbia University Medical Center. There, he acquired advanced medical techniques and took the lead in training the next generation of medical professionals.
In particular, he has gained global recognition for his work in pedicle screw fixation without the use of radiation and in adolescent scoliosis surgery. According to a study published in 2014, among approximately 50,000 papers on spinal deformity worldwide, Dr. Kim's papers ranked 8th, 32nd, and 44th among the 100 most cited papers.
Two of his papers on adolescent scoliosis were also included among the 100 most cited papers in the field of pediatric orthopedics.
To honor Dr. Kim's achievements, Seoul Bumin Hospital will hold the opening ceremony for the 'Kim Yongjung Spine Deformity Center' and the '1st Sarcopenia and Spinal Deformity Symposium' at the hospital's Future Medicine Center on May 24, 2025.

He will also deliver a special lecture sharing his 40 years of clinical experience in both Korea and the United States. For medical professionals aspiring to a career in spinal surgery, this event is expected to provide valuable insights into the past, present, and future trends of the field.
The Bumin Hospital Group plans to launch various support programs for domestic and international patients suffering from spinal disorders in conjunction with the opening of the Spine Deformity Center. In addition to providing medical and surgical support, the group will also offer emotional support activities such as performances and sports viewing events for patients and their families.
Director Kim Yongjung stated, "Just as Bumin Hospital's mission is to contribute to healthy and happy lives for humanity through the best medical care, I hope this center will bring hope to patients and families struggling with spinal disorders, enabling them to improve their quality of life." He added, "We will continue to fulfill our social responsibility through various sponsorship activities and educational programs in the future."
