Namyangju Senior Welfare Center Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Kwangdeok) announced on May 23 that the 30th anniversary event of the Namyangju Senior Welfare Center was successfully held on May 22 under the slogan "Thirty Years Together, Toward a New Tomorrow."

The event was attended by more than 500 people, including Mayor Joo Kwangdeok of Namyangju, Venerable Hosan, the head monk of Bongseonsa Temple (the supporting temple of the Namyangju Senior Welfare Center) of the 25th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, provincial and city council members, and heads of welfare-related organizations.


The ceremony began with a fusion Korean traditional music performance by the Arihyeon Band, followed by a screening of a 30th anniversary commemorative video, congratulatory speeches from distinguished guests, awards for contributors to senior welfare, the proclamation of the event slogan, and the cutting of a rice cake cake. The event concluded with a celebratory performance by singer Lee Yeeun, a former contestant on Miss Trot.


Mayor Joo Kwangdeok stated, "I find it very meaningful that the Namyangju Senior Welfare Center has played a significant role in improving the quality of life and welfare of seniors in the community for the past 30 years. Namyangju City will continue to implement welfare policies that serve as a reliable friend and support, enabling seniors to communicate with society and enjoy an active and dignified later life."


Venerable Hosan, the head monk of Bongseonsa Temple, said, "I hope the welfare center will become a companion for a healthy and happy later life for seniors, and especially a reliable neighbor for seniors from marginalized groups who need help at any time. Bongseonsa Temple will continue to contribute to the advancement of senior welfare with a spirit of compassion and sharing."


The Namyangju Senior Welfare Center, which has been operated on consignment by Namyangju City, has registered over 6,000 senior members since its opening in March 1995 and is a leading welfare facility in Namyangju, with an average of more than 300 daily users.
