Research on Functional Skeletal Muscle Regeneration
for the Treatment of Extensive Muscle Defects
Dankook University Hospital announced on May 23 that Professor Jeon Hongbae from the Department of Plastic Surgery has received the 'W Songwon Basic Medical Science Award' at the 14th Annual Basic Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Conference of the University Society of Plastic Surgery.
The conference was held in Daegu from May 15 to 16. This award is given based on a comprehensive evaluation of the excellence of the research topic and research capabilities.
Professor Jeon received the award for his research on functional skeletal muscle regeneration for the treatment of extensive muscle defects.
This research is a convergence study that covers everything from material development to animal experiments. It focuses on a new bio-material that combines 'electromagnetic nanofibers' and 'human-derived adipose stem cells capable of differentiating into muscle cells.'
Professor Jeon Hongbae stated, "It was a meaningful process in which we explored the possibilities of skeletal muscle regeneration by collaborating and conducting experiments across various fields," and added, "I will continue to focus my research on developing technologies that can be applied in actual clinical practice in the field of regenerative medicine."
